Quilters Digest offers a wonderful pattern for a quick-to-make table topper. With only using 5 2.5″ strips, this is a great little topper to use up those jelly roll strips that you didn’t need in your projects. They made theirs up in such cute halloween fabric, which means Thanksgiving is right around the corner. This would make great Christmas gifts and so easy to make!
A helpful tip for those who own a Featherweight!
Recently I had a problem with my featherweight! For those who know me, I pushed up my sleeves and took to taking it apart, First, I looked on youtube (the repair bible of the world) for some helpful tips, and found a man who took the entire bobbin casing out and replaced it. Well, it didn’t look to hard, so as he talked, I started looking at the cost of the replacement part, about $69. At the very end of his video he was putting the throat plate on and said a very important tip which I want to share with you. If you ever take the throat plate off your Featherweight there is a little silver finger that must point straight up when the plate is screwed on. It’s obvious which silver piece it is as the rest of the parts are the normal parts of the bobbin case. This little finger put back where it belongs is probably a golden nugget for repair people! I don’t want any of you to fall into this repair pit for a simple fix. Your machine will break thread if you have this problem. Also, remember to always put your needle in with the flat part to the left and thread from the left to the right! We love our Featherweights and we want them happy!
I follow a young women on Facebook who makes the best video’s on quilting! She breaks things down and makes things look so simple. I thought I would share one of her videos with you on how to make a feather. The way she does it really makes more sense to me than all the other people I have heard. I hope you enjoy it and find it as helpful as I have.
Look at these beautiful quilts! We can only dream! So many hours put into each one! These quilters certainly are talented!
